As Stevens looks to the next decade and beyond, our motto, per aspera ad astra — “through adversity to the stars” — has never been more relevant.
It will continue to define our meteoric rise as a premier, student-centric, technological research university, with Stevens students, faculty and alumni peering into the unknown, seeking solutions to the most challenging problems in science, technology, engineering, business and the humanities.
Applying new tools to critical research topics
Stevens researchers are developing and deploying advanced AI and machine learning tools to address issues and challenges that have substantial impacts on society. We foresee our research faculty making new discoveries in areas that directly benefit individuals and families, including medical diagnostics and treatments for cancer, autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease and other illnesses.
At the same time, we experience advances every day that have large scale, system-wide impacts as well – including defense and homeland security, cybersecurity and the safety and security of our financial systems, maritime systems and infrastructure, to name just a few.
Meeting increased demand with high ROI
The demand for a Stevens education has never been greater; applications and enrollment have skyrocketed. That trend should continue in the future as the Stevens approach to providing the highest quality college education is increasingly recognized for its success and the stellar outcomes of its students.
Our approach emphasizes undergraduate research opportunities, entrepreneurship courses, cooperative education and internships, and meaningful community services activities. These pillars will remain as the foundation of the Stevens experience.
Expanding opportunity across backgrounds and abilities
In the coming years Stevens will remain committed to increasing access to opportunity for students from underserved communities. As Stevens President Nariman Farvardin has said, “Talent is distributed equally across the country and around the globe, but access to opportunity is not.” The university’s pledge to providing those opportunities will remain unwavering in the future.
Growing the campus for our growing community
The commitments of countless supporters have assured that students coming to the Stevens campus will realize the benefits of our continued investment in new facilities. New academic buildings are coming online, and new residence halls currently under construction will house 1,000 students. The maintenance of our beautiful, first-class campus, overlooking the Manhattan skyline, will always be important for Stevens as the university grows and evolves.
The future looks very bright, indeed.
As Stevens reflects on its first 150 years and looks ahead to the next 150 years, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to innovation and the development of leaders in our rapidly evolving, technology oriented world. With the active engagement of Stevens alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of the university we know we will be reaching for the stars for years to come.
