A Proud Moment
My Stevens memory is about my entire experience as a student and why I applied to Stevens in the first place. My first employer after getting my undergrad degree was Exelon Nuclear. I got to know an alumnus, Marko, who is a fantastic engineer. I had a mentor who also gave Stevens high praises. So, I applied to the Howe School of Technology Management’s MS in Management program. At the time of my application, I was displaced from New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina. I began working for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Resident Engineer and knew that the online MS program would be a good fit for me because I had to travel from project to project. It was 2006 and cell phones weren’t “smart” at that time. I remember taking my first course online while traveling from New Orleans, LA to San Jose, CA. I had a laptop and a Verizon AirCard. I worked fulltime the entire time I worked on my MS. I received a graduate certificate in Project Management along the way in 2007. Graduation was set for May 2010. My wife and I made a vacation out of the graduation trip, eating out in Hoboken, visiting ground zero and friends in Brooklyn. Even though it rained during graduation, Stevens relocated everyone to the gym and I was still able to walk across the stage to receive my MS in Management. I couldn’t have been more proud at that moment.
