A Chemistry Mentor
During high school, I had a chemistry teacher who believed in my potential and encouraged me to apply to top schools, including Stevens. His name was Phil Wangner and he received a Master's degree at Stevens and had a successful career as an industrial chemist before he became a high school teacher. Some years later, when I was in graduate school at Stevens, I came across some glassware (a kinematic viscometer) that had a label on it with his name still intact after all those years! I thought this was an incredible coincidence and I recalled his strong encouragement of me when I was just starting out as a chemist. I eventually received my Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stevens and I'm sure Mr. Wangner would have been proud!
