A Chance For Success
Well, when I applied back in 1975 I was accepted on the condition that I successfully complete a summer session before my freshman year. So Stevens gave me my first chance. I completed the program which included a computer course.
In those days there was one computer under the library. While doing some school work there I found a print out with statistical predictions regarding myself and the other people in the pre-freshman program. I was predicted to fail out freshman year.
In those days we had freshman games the week of orientation. Incoming freshman against the sophomores. I guess my friends and I were too excited and climbed on the old field house roof and painted a huge 79. Well we were caught and almost expelled, but Dean Eversen decided to give me my second chance.
I graduated, and achieved a modicum of success, and now my company, SOLTEX, provides a Stevens Pinnacle Scholarship (which I’m sure I would never had qualified for). I’m pretty sure all the fast talk in the world would not have gotten me a third chance. I wouldn’t go so far as to say there weren’t a couple of close calls.
