Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: The Stevens Connection
For more than three decades, Stevens has played a vital role in New York City's iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. More than 100 Stevens volunteers gather annually to take on a variety of roles for the parade, from balloon inflation to piloting to vehicle management.
Stevens was first invited to join the parade's inflation crew in the 1980s. Macy’s parade studio facility was originally located in Hoboken, so the arrangement was a perfect fit. Each fall, several weeks before the big event, the colorful balloons are carefully test-inflated on DeBaun Field.
Campus volunteers are also prepared for other behind-the-scenes parade responsibilities, training for months beforehand to ensure everything goes smoothly on parade day.
